so lately ive been helping visually art direct some bars and clubs down here in san diego. most currently im helping the owners of the old bar o'connells, theyre changing the look name and feel of this place, make it more contemporary. so i was brought in to help crete a new attitude. the name of the place will be saints and sinners, so its my job to create some hot and tasty devil and angel girl images. so with this post im going to show you some insight into my process... first off after establishing the space were working with, in this case roughly 6 ft by 3-4 ft for each girl, i hit the drawing pad and sketched out my version of a sinful little devil lady... youll notice i kept her features kinda mousey, smaller chest, larger hips, long hair, tried to come up with a sexy confident pose, for the most part i got what i wanted, heh.... up next i just started slapping down some color ideas. the red skin we felt was a bit much so we decided to go more with an undead color scheme, almost vampire-esque.... with all these bits in place it was time to move to the final piece... with it i decided i needed to punch up the smaller details so i decided to make her gloves and panties a lacey almost tattoo looking accesory, a little red, and some black boots, and a bit of the halftone and voila! we have the sinner of saints and sinners! up next, our saint:D

Not only did I get to draw the new Robin for the first time, which was a blast btw, but it also shows a return to one of my favorite characters, Supergirl!!!! my piece for my backdrop for this years coming con season...still needs to be colored but i fig'd i'd share the pencils... decided to go with four of my best known characters i've worked on... of course batgirl wouldve made sense too but i figured supergirl would be a nice touch, and of course well, if you dont know those other three well then you just dont know me too well;)

thought i'd share a layout with you guys of the earlier posted cyberforce/hunter killer variant i did for top cow a minute back... used my cintiq to do this one, it's amazing how far technology has come...as you can see in the the layout i sort of allude to the rendering or rather lighting of the piece that i have in mind for the final version...enjoy...

A whole new world

A new year, and a new outlook, and a new signature... I decided it was important to start really putting everything I put out there through a fine toothed comb. Also I felt like I needed a new signature, something sleek, and sharp, and simple. I know it probably seems a little funny that I post about this, but I really am going to be making an effort to create the "Ale' Garza" look on every endeavor I set out with. So here it is, a new sig, a new promise to quality, and excitement!

She Hulk's a challenge for me because I usually go out of my way to keep women as soft and smooth as possible when drawing them. However as we all know She Hulk needs them muscle tones. Went back through some old scans...These were from issue 1, from waaay back in the begining... Really this was one of the first times I attempted to draw Chance and Aspen. Was really trying to get to show the difference in personalities between two of the main characters. Aspen kinda fun loving, and wander-ful, while chance is def more of the joker, and arrogant. IDK just brushing off some oldies.

Just wanted to touch base on the fact that I've been working on this fine title for close to ten issues now, with the last issue coming out this november, it's hard to imagine not drawing this beautiful brunette lady anymore, lol. From the moment Mike(Turner), and Vince(Hernandez) came to me wanting me to tackle the third arc of the series it's been a blessing. As a creator you'll never find a bettter group of guys to work with other than Aspen. So here's a panel cap, and a quick hi, cause I gotta get back to work!

Hey guys I want to give a heart felt thanks to all of you who came out and supported me this wekend at LDCCON! I had an amazing time, meeting greeting, all of you! Def got love for my west coast peeps! Wanted to post a quick JJ Kirby and I jam piece, he did Cloak, I did Dagger with me on the inks for the whole piece. Back to San Diego, I swear I got gypsy blood in me, therefore in honor of that, a gypsy woman I drew! Did this for Zenescope, some fine people working over there, they've always done me solid... Was going through a pigma pen craze thing on this one... Couldn't figure out the hair, but I was quite pleased a lot of the other things that ended up happening in this piece.

Wow, it's been a minute hasn't it? Let's see, life as always has been very interesting for me for the past few years. I however am not going to delve into that, hah! I know all of you who know me or know of me would expect all these 'emo'-esque type posts from this here tard, but that's not going to happen!

This my friends is about the art, the art of comics, and how even though it seems like I've fallen off the map for awhile I am still and always will be here. So lets get this started. To all of you who have been fans of mine and have stuck through this crazy journey with me, I thank you... To all of you who feel I've let down, I apologize...

So let's look at some art shall we? In these first few posts I'm going to be showing some of rarely seen color artwork. Rarely seen, because truth be told I'm color blind as they come, and feel pretty insecure about even attempting to use it. For these pieces they were actually pretty simple, straight figure work, nothing too complicated... I felt this one was appropriate as the three in the piece are busting loose!
